Detailed plan of the proposed development of Falmouth at the end of the nineteenth century.

The proposed housing and new docks is coloured red, and was laid-out by the Truro-based land surveyor Nicholas Whitley. The planned development was a not only a response to the burgeoning population and trade, but also to the significant increase in tourism, which had been on the increase since the arrival of the railway in the 1860s.
