The plan is finely coloured to highlight: the City of London with its wards in and outside the city walls; the City of Westminster; and Southwark. A great deal of traffic is depicted on the Thames - to emphasise the importance of the river to London - these include barges, water boatmen, and, to the east of London Bridge, sailing vessels. The importance of maritime trade and affairs is also shown in the view of the Custom House, which had been rebuilt some nine years earlie...
