notes:
A detailed manuscript map shows Kangwon Province in the east of North Korea, with cities, towns, routes, mountains and waterways illustrated across the region. It is centred on the port city of Wonsan which, situated on the Sea of Japan, historically served as both a trade centre and naval base. Routes between important cities in the region are illustrated with a fine red line, while mountainous chains are highlighted blue, as is the ocean.
