Captain John Lamb (1790-1862) was a Royal Naval Officer who saw active service during the Napoleonic Wars. He retired from the Navy in 1814 on half-pay. He then joined the merchants Buckles, Bagster & Buchanan where he served as master of several ships involved in the convict trade from England to Australia. He would later settle with his family in Sydney and amassed a great fortune in the shipping and wool trades. In 1855 he retired to England, but missed his family so much that he returned to Sydney in 1857.
