Notes
An early English mariner's chart, intended to break the Dutch monopoly on such productions. "The work is accompanied by pilotage instructions, tables of saemen's wages by rank, entitlement to prize money, sick pay etc." (Wardington). On the title-page, which contains a succinct summary of the whole work, Jenner states his aim to be that "any man may be as experienced in the Sea-Coast by this Card, as they have been by Land, by the six Mapps of England wherein the Villages and smallest Places were known to travell unto them. and where the Land Armies did lye"; this is a reference to his famous 'Quartermaster's Map.
