Putting Champagne on the Map!
An exquisite 17th Century antique map of the Champagne region by William Blaeu could be yours to admire as you enjoy 2 Jeroboams of Champagne de Bruyne Cuvée Absolue Brut NV. Generously donated by Daniel Crouch Rare Books and Roland de Bruyne.
Map: ‘Champagne latine Campania Comitatus’. This decorative antique map of Champagne is a double-page engraved map. It is hand drawn in fine original colour outline with German text to verso and embellished with putti and the regional coat-of-arms. Published by the leading cartographer of the seventeenth century William Blaeu. Amsterdam, 1647-48.
Champagne de Bruyne: a family owned and run négociant-manipulant who also own vineyards, their Cuvée Absolue is produced from 1/3 Chardonnay, 1/3 Pinot Noir and 1/3 Pinot Meunier. With a good smattering coming from Grand Cru sites, it is an excellent Champagne that offers an impressive, fresh palate with notable concentration and depth. We looked high and low for another house Champagne before we tasted this. A delicious multi-vintage wine, it displays notes of lemon zest, white peach and flowers. On the palate, it is creamy and mineral and wonderfully balanced. Highly recommended!
Please Note: The highest bid received on either i-bidder.com or at the Goedhuis Summer Rosé Tasting at the Saatchi Gallery at 8.45pm on 23rd June 2011 will be the successful purchaser of the lot.
