Notes

First scientific survey of Maui, and the First official map of the Island commissioned by the U.S. Government following Hawaii's annexation.

By far the largest and most detailed antiquarian map of Maui, it represents the first accurate survey of the island, the product of exacting trigonometric surveys. The present edition of the Alexander map depicts Maui during an especially critical and eventful period in its history, shortly after the Hawaiian Islands were annexed to the United States in 1898, and the map acted as the authoritative geographical source on the island for the next generation.
