Notes

The plan is finely coloured to highlight: the City of London with its wards in and outside the city walls; the City of Westminster; and Southwark. A great deal of traffic is depicted on the Thames - to emphasise the importance of the river to London - these include barges, water boatmen, and, to the east of London Bridge, sailing vessels. The importance of maritime trade and affairs is also shown in the view of the Custom House, which had been rebuilt some nine years earlier by Thomas Ripley. The title in German and Latin is housed within an elaborate cartouche, which is surmounted by the royal coat-of-arms. To the title's right is a key giving the German translation of English terms used upon the plan.

Scale: 9 1/2 inches to 1 statute mile.
