Notes
Waldseemüller's "modern" map of the Holy Land is based on the map of Vesconte and Sanuto, updated by Germanus in 1482, for which see Item 16628. Waldseemüller's important 1513 edition retains most of the geographical details found on the earlier map, but the shape of the relief has been altered, the coastline changed in parts, and the two islands of Atlit and Assur that appeared in earlier versions omitted. There is also a vessel on the waters off Jaffa, an image taken from Bernhard von Breydenbach's 'Peregrinatio in Terram Sanctam'.
